Notes

87 Records

This is a characteristically shaped species, which is unlikely to be confused with any other. Poulsen (1969) established the genus Fellia when he split up the five species Müller (1906) had placed in Dana’s genus Halocypris into three genera. Its recorded geographical distribution is from 42°S to 32°N in the western Atlantic. One record that appears anomalous is from 46°N at Dana station 4158 in the N.E.Atlantic; intensive sampling by Discovery it has not yielded further specimens north of the equator in the N.E.Atlantic, although on the equator it occurred in moderate abundance at depths of 300-500m. Otherwise there is no reliable bathymetric data for this species.
