Notes

75 records

Müller (1906) described this species from three Atlantic and one Indian Ocean stations. Since then all further records have come from the Atlantic, from latitudes of 44°N to 23°S. Chavtur and Stovbun (2003) in their revision of Archiconchoeciinae classified this species in a new genus Archiconchoecetta and designated it as the type species for the genus. There is a marked sexual dimorphism in the size and shape of the carapace, and in both sexes the carapace is unusually slim. The bathymetric profiles show that it occurs between 300-800m; there is no obvious explanation for the double maxima seen in the profiles. Live specimens are translucent and almost colourless.
