Notes

80 records

This species was originally described as an Archiconchoecia species, but in their recent revision of the former Archiconchoecia species Chavtur and Stovbun (2003) have classified it in a new monotypic genus. They suggest that Deevey’s material was a closely related but different species. However, the specimens available to us from off Bermuda match the original description of this species.

It has never been reported in abundance, possibly either because it is small and easily overlooked or because it is under sampled by the meshes of the nets used in sampling. Hence the map of its distribution may be unrepresentative. It is a mesopelagic species limited to latitudes <42° in the Atlantic.
