Maxime Colin (France) watches as a young fox sits on a road that winds through the middle of a forest.
Maxime had been observing the mother fox for over a year.
He watched from his hiding place as three cubs played, one looking back at him before joining the others in the wood.
Foxes live in diverse habitats across the world. In cities and towns, wild foxes can live from 6 to 12 years. Most will only survive for a few years, with road accidents being the most common cause of death.
Maxime believes his photo demonstrates nature’s capacity to adapt to human environments.

Maxime has been passionate about nature since he was a child. He lives in the Yvelines, in the middle of the Natural Park of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, France. Maxime spends his time in the forest, hidden under a camouflage cloth. His focus is on listening to nature to better know and understand life around him. He never expected the forests to be full of so many species. Maxime wants his photos to reveal their beauty and fragility and to urge people to protect them.
Help us harness the power of photography to advance scientific knowledge, spread awareness of important issues and nurture a global love for nature.
