Ingo Zahlheimer (Germany) champions an urban neighbour using shadows.
For some time, Ingo has been photographing the wildlife in his home city of Munich, including rats. But when he found this graffiti wall, he had the idea for an alternative visual statement about the true nature of our urban environment.
Making an oversized cut-out rat, he cast a shadow by torchlight to champion this urban neighbour and create contrast with the colourful, neon graffiti creatures behind.
Rats are able to take advantage of a diverse range of habitats, including our most urban areas. They spend much of their time washing and grooming and are inquisitive, agile, smart and social.
