Bobcat Delivery

Vishal Subramanyan's Image

Vishal Subramanyan (USA) finds the right angle to frame the bobcat against a backdrop of trees, backlit by the morning Sun.

Passionate about bobcats, Vishal had followed the life of this female, who he called Blondie, near his home in California for the past six years and knew she had kittens nearby. As a squirrel scampered along the window frame of an abandoned winery, she sprang up from inside the building and snatched it.

Fortunately for Vishal, climbing down from the window proved harder for the bobcat than springing up, giving Vishal just enough time to photograph it.

Bobcats - named for their very short tails - prey primarily on rabbits but are very adaptable. Preferring areas with natural cover, where they can ambush their prey and find shelter, bobcats are increasingly found in urban areas. Here they face threats from road traffic and eating prey poisoned with rodenticides. Not only this but they’re also hunted for their fur.
