Brent Stirton (South Africa) documents the impacts of the illegal bushmeat trade across the Congo Basin.
Mbuti hunter-gatherers head into the rainforest carrying nets made from forest vines. The men place the nets in a line and then the women drive animals towards them. Larger mammals usually break through the nets, so they mostly catch small ones, such as porcupines and duikers - diminutive forest antelopes.
This type of hunting has less impact on the environment, as catches are consumed by the local community and are not sold commercially, keeping this traditional way of forest life sustainable.
