Jomtup Charoenlapnumchai (Thailand) enjoys the moment when a Bryde’s whale appears against the backdrop of a Bangkok skyline.
Jomtup had been at sea for 10 hours looking for the whales without any luck. Just as he was leaving, the rain stopped, the sea calmed and this Bryde's whale appeared near his whale-watching boat.
The Bryde's whales that feed in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Thailand stay all year round and are smaller than individuals living in other areas. Bryde's whales are filter feeders - they catch small fish by swimming near the surface of the water with their mouths open – an energy-efficient feeding technique.
