This towering sculpture by German artist Wolf Vostell incorporates a Russian MiG-21 aircraft, two cars, pianos, computer monitors and now three huge nests built of sticks and grass.
Francisco used a long exposure to capture these pairs of white storks sleeping under a starry sky, quietly asserting their place in the modern world Vostell depicted. White storks are as at home on artificial structures as they are in trees, nesting on anything flat enough to support a nest. Although they form monogamous pairs for the breeding season, they will migrate separately to overwinter in southern Africa, returning to Europe in spring to reunite at their nest site.
