Little big voice

Leon Bohlmann's Image

A bird flying among the reeds caught Leon’s eye – and his ear – as he rowed with his family along the edges of Lake Lübkow, northern Germany.

It was a great reed warbler loudly declaring its territory. Leon asked his parents to drop him off on a wooden pier nearby, where he stayed watching for the bird. It was a real test of patience. Although Leon could hear the distinctive calls of The Boss, as he nicknamed him, it was a long time before the male showed itself. Then it was only briefly, giving Leon just one chance to get his shot.

Ever since he could walk, Leon has accompanied his father on trips to photograph nature, but he soon became frustrated with the role of spectator. He got his first compact camera at the age of three so that he could take some pictures, too. Now using a DSLR, he often explores the outdoors on his own, looking for interesting subjects to photograph.
