Tips and inspiration
- Check if the light bulbs in your home are energy efficient using this guide. A quick way to tell is to hold your hand near the bulb when it’s on to feel if there’s heat coming off it. If it feels hot, then it’s not energy efficient.
- The next time you need to replace a light bulb, look for a more energy-efficient option such as LED bulbs. You can find LED bulbs in supermarkets or hardware shops.
- LED bulbs don’t have to be bright and harsh. Look for soft white or warm white options.
- Recycle your old bulbs. Try taking them to your local recycling centre. Some hardware stores and supermarkets will also accept bulbs.
Why is this action beneficial?
Save energy
LED bulbs convert more energy into light instead of heat compared to older light bulbs. This is what makes them more efficient and it’s why they use less electricity.
Save money
Switching to all LED bulbs can reduce your energy bills by £40 a year. Plus, they last longer than traditional bulbs, saving you money on replacements.
