Why is this action beneficial?
Reduce emissions
Trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow and lock it away in their roots and branches. This makes them one of nature’s most effective tools for combatting climate change by reducing greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere.
Protect nature
Trees and hedgerows are biodiversity boosters. They provide food and shelter for thousands of species of mammals, birds and insects while also supporting the growth of fungi, lichens and microorganisms. Plus, their roots can protect the surrounding area from soil erosion and flooding.
Learn a new skill
At a tree planting event, you’ll learn about planting techniques, soil health and tree care as well as the many benefits planting more trees and hedges has for the local ecology.
Improve health
Taking practical climate action such as planting trees is a great way to combat feelings of climate grief or eco-anxiety. Playing a role in nurturing ecosystems and spending time in nature can promote mindfulness, reduce stress and increase your sense of connectedness with nature.
Strengthen community
Tree planting events bring people together for a common purpose. It’s a great way to meet new people and connect with your neighbours.
Reduce pollution
Trees and hedgerows filter air by capturing pollutants and dust. They also prevent soil erosion and improve water quality by reducing harmful runoff, creating a healthier environment for everyone.
