The Christmas T. rex marks the start of the Museum’s Christmas celebration, with its festive knitwear and Christmas range available in store and online now
The Natural History Museum has today answered the billion-year-long question - how does a Tyrannosaurus rex wear a Christmas woolly - unveiling its famous animatronic T. rex sporting the Museum’s 2024 Christmas jumper.
This year’s ferociously festive design comes in vibrant shades of red, blue, green and white and features the Museum’s latest prehistoric resident, Fern the Diplodocus. The towering gold giant made its home in the Museum’s newly transformed gardens back in July and is based on the model of the nation’s favourite dinosaur, Dippy. The beautifully designed jumper also features a backdrop of the Museum’s famed South Kensington building on the back, along with Christmas trees and Santa hats. The festive design is also available in a scarf, hat and socks.
Adam Farrar, Director of Commercial and Visitor Experience at the Natural History Museum, says: “The annual unveiling of our Christmas T. rex display has become a firm favourite amongst our audiences, and we are delighted to kick off festivities at the Museum with our prehistoric pal. All proceeds from our Christmas range including our Christmas knitwear will continue to support our world-leading scientific research and public programming.”
The warm winter woolie collection has been exclusively created for the Museum by notjust, a Manchester based social enterprise and ethical factory, with 100% sustainable organic cotton.
Andrew Will, Director at notjust clothing, says: “No challenge is too big for us and with this T-Rex sized Christmas jumper we think we’ve proved that point. We’re proud to be working with the Natural History Museum on this larger than life knit and have revelled in the challenge of making our biggest Christmas jumper yet using a sustainable yarn.”
On display from today in the Museum’s Dinosaur Gallery and is free for visitors, the unveiling of its Christmas T. rex has become an annual tradition for the iconic South Kensington Museum. Having first unveiled its Christmas jumper on the T. rex in 2021, the spectacle has become a highly anticipated hit with its near six million-strong visitors ever since.
Available to purchase in the Museum shop and online in unisex adult (£45) and children (£30) sizes, the jumper is a must-have for the whole family this Christmas. Unisex Christmas scarves (£18), hats (£18) for kids and adult socks (£10) are also available.
Every purchase from the Natural History Museum shop and online store helps to support the Museum’s scientists and their vital work, including finding solutions to today’s planetary emergency.
