Summary
I have a lifelong interest in plant and animal species conservation and their habitats, and a keen interest in accurate field recording and mapping, with more than 10 years’ experience since concluding a PhD in plant science. During my PhD I developed my skills as a researcher and in GIS and GPS data-gathering techniques. For those three years I also took part in herbarium activities involving plant identification, mounting and labelling specimens, sorting and laying away specimens, digitization and geo-referencing, which enhanced my view of the value of digitized collections for scientific research. I am a member of the Italian Botanical Society and of the London Natural History Society, and last year started local biodiversity recording activities with iNaturalist. I am a certified Global and Regional Assessor (IUCN, Cambridge) and have recently undertaken an online course on the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems. I am also a Nominated Chartered Agricultural Professional in Italy. I previously volunteered for the Natural History Museum and in 2016 was the Runner-up for the London ‘Volunteers in Museums Awards’. I really enjoy working in a team and to be involved in public engagement activities, and missed it a lot throughout 2020!
