Miss Madeleine Brasier

LS Polychaete PhD Student

Department: Life Sciences
Division: LS Invertebrates Division
Specialisms: Deep-Sea Systematics and Ecology Research Group
Team: Helena Wiklund, Madeleine Brasier, Regan Drennan

Summary

I am a PhD student at the University of Liverpool. I am interested in ‘extreme’ marine environments especially benthic deep-sea and Antarctic habitats. To date my I have been using DNA barcoding to examine the biodiversity and biogeography of deep-sea Antarctic polychaetes. I am now using compound specific stable isotope analysis to investigate the trophic ecology of these polychaetes and define their trophic level. By combining genetic and biochemical data I hope to improve our understanding of the role of species diversity in ecosystem function in this changing environment.

Qualifications

    Degrees

  • MSci Marine Biology, University of Southampton, England, 2009 - 2013
