Summary

I am a systematist with focal taxa including aquatic molluscs and soft-bodied bryozoans. My current research interests lie in integrating data from living and extinct taxa to:

a) Determine the taxonomy, systematic relationships and patterns of diversification of species-rich clades of snails;

1) marine snails including Polystira (Neotropics) and other turrid genera, and

2) freshwater snails of the East African rift (Lavigeria, Paramelania, Melanoides).

b) Examine diversity and macroecological change in marine molluscan communities in the Cenozoic and their relationship to key episodes of environmental change. My focal times and regions are:

1) Neogene of Central America - the role of the uplift of the Isthmus of Panama,

2) Neogene of the South East Asian marine diversity hotspot - origins and maintenance, and

3) Paleogene of NW Europe: the PETM event.

c) Determine the systematic informativeness of molluscan shell characters through a range of hierarchical levels

Introduction

Summary

I am a systematist with focal taxa including aquatic molluscs and soft-bodied bryozoans. My current research interests lie in integrating data from living and extinct taxa to:

a) Determine the taxonomy, systematic relationships and patterns of diversification of species-rich clades of snails;
