Acknowledgement Terms

Unless otherwise agreed, acceptance and acknowledgment of your donation to the Museum’s Urban Nature Project loyalty appeal (the “Appeal”) will be subject to the below terms.

Railing engravings

  1. If you donate £250 to the Appeal we will engrave a name of your choice on a railing in the new gardens.

  2. If you donate £500 to the Appeal we will engrave a name of your choice and illustration on a railing in the new gardens. You can choose the illustration from a selection we will provide.

  3. The name must have a character limit of 30 including spaces, punctuation and text and only names will be allowed.

  4. All engraved wording is subject to approval by the Museum. The Museum reserves the right to reject any donation and the related engraving for any reason at its sole discretion.

  5. The names will be placed at random along the length of the railings. If you are purchasing multiple names and would like them placed together, please email supporter@nhm.ac.uk with the list of names you have purchased. We will try to accommodate all requests but cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

  6. Engravings will be installed and available to view once the Urban Nature Project is complete and open to visitors. The gardens are scheduled to be completed in spring 2024.

  7. The railing engravings are intended to remain in the garden for a minimum period of 10 years from opening of the gardens.

  8. The Museum reserves the right to remove the railing for repair at any time or remove them permanently after the expiry of the minimum 10-year period without any refund.

  9. As the payment is a freely given donation, no refunds can be offered in any circumstances unless the donation is rejected by the Museum.

Bench engravings

  1. If you donate £5,000 to the Appeal we will insert a plaque with engraved wording of your choice on a long timber bench in the new gardens. The plaque will measure 30x150mm and the bench will include other plaques spaced every 1 metre. The engraved wording will have a character limit of 55 including spaces and punctuation.

  2. If you donate £10,000 to the Appeal we will insert a plaque with your wording on a standalone timber bench in the new gardens. The plaque will measure 30x300mm. The engraved wording will have a character limit of 115 including spaces and punctuation.

  3. All engraved wording is subject to approval by the Museum. The Museum reserves the right to reject any donation and the related engraving for any reason at its sole discretion.

  4. The Museum will have sole discretion on the location of the bench and reserves the right to relocate the bench at any time and for any reason.

  5. All bench engravings are intended to remain in the gardens for a minimum period of 10 years from the opening of the gardens.

  6. The estimated lifespan of benches is 10 years but this cannot be guaranteed. The Museum reserves the right to remove, repair and/or replace any bench as it deems necessary or move the plaque to another bench if the original is damaged. The repair of benches shall be at the Museum's discretion when it deems repairs necessary.

  7. After the 10-year period, the Museum will be entitled to remove the bench and plaque unless the supporter provides a further donation which the Museum acknowledges via the continued presence of the plaque. If removed, the Museum will attempt to contact the supporter at their last known address to enquire if they wish for the plaque to be returned to them but the supporter is responsible for advising the Museum of any change of contact details.

  8. Benches are a standard specification and will be supplied by the Museum.

  9. As the payment is a freely given donation, no refunds can be offered in any circumstances unless the donation is rejected by the Museum.

Supporting a tree species

  1. If you donate £1,000 to the Appeal, to acknowledge your donation you can request a gift of a mounted print we have recreated from a series of postcards the Museum produced in the 1920s and 1930s. The print will measure 45 x 60 cm.
  2. We will limit the number of copies of the print that we issue to an edition of 15. Each print features a plant species that we intend to grow in our gardens. However, since plants may die and get replaced we cannot guarantee the permanent presence of these species in our gardens.
  3. We aim to post prints within 10 working days of your donation, and we will only deliver the print to the purchaser’s shipping address. If the donation is made as a gift then it is the purchaser’s responsibility to deliver the print to the gift recipient. We will post prints using a courier service which will require a signature on delivery. If the courier cannot deliver your parcel on their first attempt then it is your responsibility to rearrange redelivery directly with the courier.
  4. As the payment is a freely given donation, no refunds can be offered in any circumstances unless the donation is rejected by the Museum.
  5. For VAT purposes the gift will be valued at £35 including VAT.
  6. Your donation will support the Urban Nature Project, but not necessarily fund the planting or maintenance of trees within the garden.
