Notes

358 records

This is one of the larger species in Müller’s ‘curta group’, which Poulsen (1973) re-classified in Claus’s genus It is readily distinguished from the others in the genus by its size, the anterior taper of its carapace and the right asymmetric gland opening half way up the dorsal margin. Its recorded latitudinal range is 60°N to 54°S but it is very much less abundant at latitudes <30°. The bathymetric profiles show that it is mesopelagic species living deep than the other species in the genus. Its adults are most abundant at depths of 900-1500m but a few females extend up to 300m. The juveniles are most abundant between 300-900m. Living specimens are tinted with yellow/orange pigment beneath the incisure and around the bases of the limbs.
