Notes

25 Records

This species was first collected in a net deployed from the French submersible Archimede on a dive off the Azores, which was opened between 2400 and 2450m. It has since been sampled several times in deep plankton tows, especially those taken close to the seabed at depths of 1500-4070m. Its known range is restricted to 20°N to 73° 30’N in the North Atlantic. Its small size means it is easily overlooked in samples, although its characteristic shape makes it readily recognisable. There is no discrete size grouping of the juvenile instars that can be related to the various instars, so it there may be more than one species amongst these specimens.
