Notes

56 records

Following its description from the tropical North Atlantic, there have only been spasmodic new records. It is possible that it is still being confused with its sibling species P. parthenoda, despite the opening of the left asymmetrical gland being clearly shifted further anteriorly, and the posterior margin being even more domed. The records are almost exclusively from latitudes <32° in the Atlantic. There is just a single record from the Indian Ocean, one from off Indonesia and three in the Eastern Pacific off Peru. The bathymetric profiles show that it is totally restricted to depths of 50-200m (i.e. slightly shallower than parthenoda) both by day and by night.

Living specimens of this species have not been observed.
