Diagnostic Features
  • Test almost globular. Test thin and delicate.
  • Apical disc hemicylic with ocular plates I and V insert.
  • Distinct naked interradial and perradial bands on aboral surface.
  • Ambulacra trigeminate with pore-pairs arranged in arcs forming a single band. Not expanded adorally into phyllodes.
  • Primary ambulacral tubercle on every second or third plate only.
  • Tubercles small and non-crenulate.
Distribution Recent; China Sea. 50-90 m.
Name gender feminine
Type Amblypneustes pentagonus A. Agassiz, 1872, p. 56, by original designation.
Species Included Only the type species.
Classification and/or Status Camarodonta; Echinoida; Toxopneustidae.
Monotypic.
Remarks Very like Tripneustes but without ambulacral pore-pairs forming three discrete columns in each zone.
