Diagnostic Features
  • Test of medium size, subovate in outline, domed in profile, greatest height posterior of centre, with broad truncated margin and relatively flat adoral surface.
  • Apical disc anterior; monobasal, with four gonopores.
  • Petals well developed; lanceolate, open distally extending almost to ambitus. Pore-pairs small and circular; subconjugate; the two columns in each petal of slightly unequal length.
  • Peristome subcentral, pentagonal, wider than long.
  • Periproct inframarginal and transverse; not sunken.
  • Phyllodes short but strongly developed, single pored, with two series in each half ambulacrum, plus scattered pores in between.
  • Bourrelets moderately developed, with a distinct well leading to the peristome opening.
  • Buccal pores present.

Middle Eocene to Late Eocene (Priabonian) of Italy and Spain.

Remarks

Lambert & Thiery (1909-1925) class Politolampas as a subjective junior synonym of Cylindrolampas. However, Politolampas lacks the \'square\' cylindrical shape of Cylindrolampas and has stronger development in its phyllodes (two distinct series in each half ambulacrum, plus scattered pores between in Politolampas; a distinct outer series and only a faint inner series in Cylindrolampas).
