Family Pseudodiadematidae Pomel, 1883, p. 100

Diagnosis

Carinacea with:

  • apical disc small and dicyclic;
  • pore-pairs uniserial at ambitus and adapically;
  • ambulacral plate compounding diadematid
  • primary tubercles perforate and crenulate.

Upper Triassic to Lower Cretaceous, Europe, Middle East, India.

Remarks

Distinguished from Hemicidaridae by having ambulacral and interambulacral tubercles more or less similar in size. Distinguished from Emiratiidae by having a small dicyclic apical disc with no intercalated periproctal plates. Distinguished from Phymosomatidae by having perforate tubercles and simple ambulacral compounding, with all elements reaching the perradius.

Most of the taxa included in this family in the Treatise by Fell & Pawson (1966) are here removed to other families.
