The UK's foremost and best-loved natural history presenter, Sir David Attenborough, is voted Britain's Greatest Living Icon.
Viewers of the BBC's Culture Show voted him the winner from a list of 10 people that included Stephen Fry, Kate Moss, David Bowie and Sir Michael Caine.
Sir David beat musicians Sir Paul McCartney and Morrissey to the top spot and he told the BBC he was 'flattered and amazed' to have secured the public vote.
An estimated 500 million people worldwide have watched Sir David's 13-part Life on Earth series that began back in 1979 and for more than 50 years he has continued to inspire us with his pioneering natural history programmes.
In honour of Sir David's 50 years of pioneering work, the Natural History Museum's David Attenborough Studio campaign is raising money for a new live communications space for visitors to engage with scientists and explore the natural world.
