Updates to Board of Trustees at the Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is pleased to announce that Robert Noel and Prof Yadvinder Malhi CBE FRS have had their terms as Museum trustees extended by two and four years respectively, by the Prime Minister.

Robert is Chair of Taylor Wimpey PLC and Hammerson PLC, both listed property development companies and constituents of the FTSE100 and 250 respectively. He will continue to provide support and advice to the Museum on the development of its infrastructure.

Yadvinder is Professor of Ecosystem Science at the University of Oxford, Jackson Senior Research Fellow in Biodiversity and Conservation at Oriel College, Oxford, and Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery and the Oxford University Biodiversity Network. As a scientist focussing on the impacts of climate change, Yadvinder will continue in his role of guiding the Museum through the climate crisis for a future where people and planet thrive.

We announce a change of role for Harris Bokhari OBE as he reaches the end of his term as Trustee. Harris has been appointed trustee Emeritus in recognition of his contribution to the Museum, and we are delighted to announce that he has agreed to act as an advisor to the Chair on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). We also take this opportunity to congratulate him on his new role as Chair of the Public Service Honours Committee.

Since joining the Museum Harris has overseen the first Interfaith Iftar to be celebrated at the Museum which saw faith leaders join with young Londoners of all faiths, and none, to share in the breaking of the Ramadan fast in the iconic Hintze Hall. We have also launched The Explorers Programme, a project that encourages and supports students from marginalised ethnicities to pursue a career in Natural History research and the Environmental sector.

Our work on EDI continues with a recent publication in the science journal Nature by Dr Alex Bond which explores ways to capture LBGTQ+ identities in STEM organisations leading to a better sense of professional belonging, as well as onsite activities which focus on traditionally marginalised identities such as the Women in Science Tour: Women of Colour
