Four times heavier than Dippy the Diplodocus and 12 metres longer than Hope our blue whale, Patagotitan mayorum is absolutely colossal and one of the largest creatures ever known to have roamed the planet. We're delighted its making its European debut here with us at the Museum in 2023 and invite our visitors to come and meet this spectacular titanosaur and learn all about its life as one of the biggest dinosaurs.
Surrounded by beautiful illustrations of Cretaceous plants and animals, visitors will follow the life of the titanosaur, from a football-sized egg plucked from its nest to a fully grown adult, bearing the marks of an encounter with a ferocious predator that took a bite out of its tail.
As they weave their way around the gallery, visitors will handle specimens, explore interactives and learn how a creature of this colossal size could have survived, and thrived, on Earth. They'll get to size themselves up against its huge thigh bone, stare into its gigantic sauropod skull and even smell its poo! To finish, they'll reflect on what gigantic animals exist on Earth today and how we can better protect them from the threats posed by the planetary emergency.
